Rivaldo: Setien has to find the formula to do something new at Barcelona

Barcelona have slipped off the top of the LaLiga Santander standings, and their football under Quique Setien has failed to impress a number of fans and pundits, most notably Rivaldo, who believes the Spanish coach needs to try something new.

Luis Suarez's return to action hasn't had the impact many thought and it says a lot that Martin Braithwaite has looked more at ease in Setien's system than Antoine Griezmann.

"It's obvious that Barcelona have to improve their football, and that's up to the coach, Setien has to find a formula to do something new," Rivaldo explained in an interview with Betfair at the Camp Nou.

"He needs to find a way to take advantage of the quality of the players he has at his disposal.

"Of course, recent matches make everyone doubt the progress because we're used to seeing a different kind of Barcelona."

When pressed on Los Cules' recent form, the former Barcelona forward suggested that the extended break from action could have impacted the Catalan club.

"I want to believe that the mediocre recent performances are the result of these strange times that we're living in," Rivaldo added.

"I hope that in the next two or three matches they improve their level of playing."

Ansu Fati and Riqui Puig have been used regularly this season, and it looks as if they will be key members of Setien's team in the coming matches, something which Rivaldo has urged caution over.

"These guys are important to the team, and have a bright future, but I don't think they are the ones to make the difference," Rivaldo confirmed.

"The responsibility should lie with the veterans, those with more experience and they are the players who must give more.

"I read in the press that they have many players over 30, but I don't believe that's a problem."
